Long Island Recovery Association

The Long Island Recovery Association (LIRA), the first ever Recovery Community Organization (RCO) in New York, was founded in January 2000 to give a voice and visible presence to the recovery community on Long Island.  For too long our constituency of people in recovery and impacted family members remained underground as others made decisions affecting us and our families including the enactment of discriminatory policies resulting in barriers that prevented our folks from finding recovery and being treated equally.

LIRA educates decision-makers, policy leaders, and the community at large to reduce the negative perceptions surrounding Substance Use Disorders with the aim of building a bridge of mutual understanding to individuals in recovery, family members, and all those seeking a pathway that accurately reflects the existing needs of our community with links to available resources.

LIRA provides consultation, conducts trainings and workshops and provides recovery coaching and other peer to peer recovery support services.
